2004 - First Current Buster
Trialed in Canada
DSS
marine Inc. was please to make delivery of the
first NOFI Current Buster™ in the Canadian
Marketplace. ECRC in Quebec, Canada, performed
sea trials and training for system operation in
May of this year.
The NOFI Current Buster™ (patent pending)
is a unique product for containing and recovering
oil, with dramatically increased skimming efficiency
due to low oil-layer turbulence in the separator
at the end of the system.
The NOFI Current Buster™ is capable of containing
and collecting oil in towing speeds (or currents)
up to 3,5 – 4 knots. This according to tests
undertaken by the USCG R&D centre in the OHMSETT
test tank in July 1999. Therefore the NOFI Current
Buster‘ represents a completely new technology
compared with conventional oil booms. We should
like to emphasize the following comment given
in the official US Coast Guard report, which says
it all about the NOFI Current Buster:
The NOFI Current Buster™ collects oil at
the highest TE than any other system ever evaluated
at speeds over 3 knots. The values for TE were
65 percent for harbor chop and 91 percent in calm
water at 3.5 knots.
The NOFI Current Buster™ consists of a Front
Sweep (std opening 20m) guiding or herding oil
into the combined Collector/Skimming device and
then into the Separator Tank (holding capacity
approx. 30m3) from where the oil is recovered
by a simple pump or a conventional skimmer.
The NOFI Current Buster™ in addition to
containing oil in high towing speeds (and/or currents)
also separates the oil from the water and positively
“controls” the oil for uncomplicated
and highly efficient oil recovery – replacing
the need for conventional skimmers (by applying
pumps instead).
The NOFI Current Buster™ is also expected
to be well suited for fast running rivers and
in narrow, high current straits.
